As our nation’s students pack their book bags and return to school this month, we don’t often notice those students who are missing from the empty desks. According to The Everyone Graduates Center at Johns Hopkins University, 7.5 million or 15% of American PreK-12th grade students are chronically absent, meaning they miss 18 or more days of school per year.
